It’s been a while since we’ve looked at what’s going on with the Harvey Weinstein sexual harassment case, as we discussed in November, Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein was accused of a myriad of sexual assault claims that reportedly went on for years. Since the first brave victim came forward, numerous woman has told their tales of being taken advantage of, harassed, and sexually abused by the embattled Hollywood producer.
But unfortunately, Weinstein’s story doesn’t stop there. A new report indicates that more than a year before Weinstein was first accused of sexual misconduct, an employee wrote a review on the website Glassdoor stating that sexual harassment was “the norm” at The Weinstein Company (TWC). In taking a look at Glassdoor, TWC had a 3.1 rating (out of 5) and just 43 percent of employees said they would recommend the company to others. Here is a look at the original review, posted in May of 2016: “Micromanagement hell. Assistants who become VP’s overnight was too often. Sexual harassment was the norm.”
Since then, Weinstein has been fired, dropped from the Academy, and is facing charges in an upcoming rape trial. TWC – Weinstein’s studio – was purchased by Lantern Capital at the end of last month after filing for bankruptcy. In addition to the above review, several former employees noted that there wasn’t an established chain of command and that “everyone is a little scared of Harvey”. This should come as no surprise to anyone who has been following his case, as Weinstein has been portrayed as a domineering figure who took advantage of those under his command. He reportedly has a very bad temper and was quite volatile, both in the workplace and outside of it.
Weinstein’s Case Not Over Yet
When Weinstein was first accused of sexual misconduct last fall it was a shock to Hollywood and the rest of the nation, or so we thought. Since then, countless Hollywood stars have come forward condemning his actions and telling stories of their own abuse from the now-disgraced Hollywood mogul. This case is one of the main reasons why #MeToo and #TimesUp have gained such traction and been such monumental movements for women’s rights. This case created a domino effect, leading to many other well-known actors, media personalities, and news anchors being reprimanded for their actions. In fact, the Weinstein case is one of – if not the – biggest reasons #MeToo exists.
